“It takes courage to love, but pain through love is the purifying fire which those who love generously know. We all know people who are so much afraid of pain that they shut themselves up like clams in a shell and, giving out nothing, receive nothing and therefore shrink until life is a mere living death.”

– Eleanor Roosevelt

When I first started my photography business, I was mostly photographing military homecomings. It was so incredible to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments for couples and families, knowing how much they would treasure them later….for years to come.

Then I dabbled in photographing families. Full disclosure: it’s not my favorite shoot in the world BUT when it’s families I already know and love, man…that’s amazing. It’s difficult to photograph people you don’t know and capture their personality, their emotions, their life. However, when photographing those I already have a relationship with, it’s incredible.

This past summer, my girls and I took a road trip from New York to Lexington to meet my new nephew/their new cousin and help my sister-in-law adjust in her post-partum period to having two little ones in her care. We missed the birth as little Jack Wyatt was so ready to be here, he came before we could make it! But while we were in Lex, we were able to stay with a sweet family friend, Jamie, who is also a doula and her four kiddos. They were so generous and kind opening their home to us without questions, even giving up a full bedroom for my girls and me.

Before we left to head back home to New York, we did a quick sunset photo shoot with Jamie and her family just down the road from her house in quaint Wilmore, KY. Using my photography to gift those who give to me is one of my most treasured skills. I hope Jamie loves these images as much as I do and will treasure them for years to come as her chlildren grow and no longer remain this small and this sweet 🙂

Thank you, Jamie, for your generous hospitality and your kindness and your friendship ❤
